One point per book
An attack book adds 1 to bonus attack; a defense book adds 1 to bonus defense. The 14 books of each type provide a total of +14 attack and +14 defense. These are stat points, not a fixed percentage or one extra point of damage.
The examples below are calculated from the normal damage formula in the game data. Keep the attack, equipment and other effects unchanged when comparing them. Fixed damage and special damage formulas are outside these examples.
Attack books: compare relative gains
For an attack-minus-defense difference between 0 and 100, Rose’s normal damage multiplier is approximately 0.53 + 0.03 × difference. One attack point adds about 0.03 to that multiplier within this range. The percentage gain is larger when the starting multiplier is lower.
| Attack − defense before pickup | Multiplier before | Multiplier after | Damage increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0.5300 | 0.5600 | 5.66% |
| 20 | 1.1300 | 1.1600 | 2.65% |
| 50 | 2.0300 | 2.0600 | 1.48% |
| 90 | 3.2300 | 3.2600 | 0.93% |
Defense books: reduction depends on the enemy
For normal incoming attacks, compare enemy attack minus Rose’s defense. A defense book reduces this difference by 1. Incoming damage follows a different, curved progression, so defense books do not grant a constant damage-reduction percentage. These examples exclude low-health defense bonuses; rounding and minimum damage can also change the displayed result.
| Attack − defense before pickup | Multiplier before | Multiplier after | Damage reduction |
|---|---|---|---|
| -20 | 0.8983 | 0.8912 | 0.79% |
| 0 | 1.0000 | 0.9970 | 0.30% |
| 20 | 1.6849 | 1.6240 | 3.61% |
| 50 | 4.4110 | 4.2997 | 2.52% |
